Maintaining a Safe Environment.

Bright from the Start has a number of licensing standards related to health and safety in a Family Child Care Home. Most of these standards outline common safety precautions such as making dangerous materials inaccessible to children, covering outlets, having a first aid kit, practicing evacuation drills, posting emergency numbers, and maintain a clean hazard free space.

A Sure Foundation is always concerned for the safety of the children in our care and ensures a safe environment for your child.

 Discipline
& Guidance.

A Sure Foundation has a philosophy of positive guidance incorporating creative teaching and involvement to help children develop self-discipline and control over their actions. It is based on mutual respect and an understanding of the child’s needs and development. Positive guidance uses redirection, verbalization of misunderstandings, consistency, and acceptance of feelings and fairness.

Children are encouraged to express their feelings verbally as well as to discuss and resolve conflicts rather than “act out” their feelings. In certain situations, brief quiet time may be used to allow a child to calm down and recover self-control before resuming group activities. This time is limited to no more than one minute per year of the child’s age.

Growth, Health & Nutrition.

A Sure Foundation will provide breakfast, lunch, and pm snack for all children. All meals follow USDA guidelines for proper nutrition.  For children not yet on table food, parents are required to supply formula or breast milk bottles already made and baby food.

Information regarding any known allergies will be requested from the parent/guardian through the information provided on the health and medical forms.

Names of children having allergies will be compiled and charted for staff members along with specific allergies, symptoms and procedures to follow in case of a reaction. Children with serve allergies or chronic illness such as diabetes, asthma etc. will have an individual health care plan.
